When can you take Assessments?
The Hong Kong IT Skills Assessment Centre was setup by ITTDC (Information Technology Training and Development Centre) of VTC (Vocational Training Council) and championed by EMB (Education and Manpower Bureau).
ITTDC
recognized the difficulties of employers in determining the competence level of
its staff or potential staff they are recruiting. With substantial amount of experience in offer quality training and organising practical IT skills
competition locally and internationally, ITTDC established the HKITSAC as an
independent body to assess the IT competence level of individuals, provide
advice and quality assurance to training courses, participating in drawing up
the IT Progression Ladder and Accreditation Framework, and perform course
linking between Hong Kong training institutions.
The
HKITSAC offers two types of assessment; Skill based and knowledge based.
Skill based assessment involves practical test and knowledge based assessment
involved on-line questions and answer test. At HKITSAC, the skill based
assessment is predominantly used to assess the competency of an individual and
knowledge based assessment is offered for completeness and as a prerequisite to
some skill based test.
For employers. The HKITSAC regularly communicates with employers to understand their IT skills requirements for their staff, and incorporate the requirements into the assessment tests. Providing a standard to measure the IT skills competence level will help to reduce the cost in staff recruitments, as when presented with the HKITSAC certificate, it is assured that the applicant posses a recognised level of IT skills competence. Moreover, existing staff will also be motivated to acquire better IT skills and since our test scheme is linked with the progression ladder they are assured that their 'life learning' objective is done via a standardised structure. With better IT skilled workforce, productivity and higher quality level will be realized. Additionally, in long run, HKITSAC can complement your HR policies in terms of staff development and recruitment. Hence, your company, customers and staff will benefit from the HKITSAC assessment scheme.
For
individuals. With
wide recognition campaigns, especially among employers group, the certificates
issued by HKITSAC can help you prove and articulate what you have learnt from
any training provider or self-study. The certificate you have acquired will
certify that your skill is at a specific level of competence. In another words,
the certificate formalises the recognition to your skills independently of
training providers. This will certainly enhance your competitiveness during job
searching, and in career advancement. You
can also use the 'Assessment Ladder' to benchmark or structure your IT skills
upgrade.
